Something Borrowed

It's a thin line between love and friendship.

Something Borrowed is another one of those films that is great to watch with your significant other. It's romantic, funny and just quirky enough to keep most people interested.

Unfortunately, that's where the praise really kind of ends. The story revolves around two friends played by Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin (who are great actresses by the way). Hudson (who always finds a way to put herself in the middle of everything, in this movie anyway) is getting married to a Tom Cruise look-a-like, who Goodwin had a crush on all through law school. Two months before the Hudson/Cruise-a-like wedding, Goodwin confesses about her crush. Cut to many scenes of Goodwin and Cruise-a-like sneaking around.

Then, something unexpected happens. Goodwin's best [guy] friend, played by John Krasinski of Office fame, confesses that he doesn't like what she's doing. The reason? He has feelings for her. Now, logic would dictate that the story would pretty much end here with Hudson/Cruise-a-like getting married as planned and Goodwin/Krasinski getting together. WRONG.

Not only do they not follow the logical story progression, but they continue with the sneaking around until Hudson finds out. Then, Hudson ends her friendship with Goodwin and Cruise-a-like calls off the wedding. Cut to a scene in the near future, where Goodwin and Hudson meet (accidentally) on the street and we find out that Goodwin and Cruise-a-like are now together.

What happened to Krasinski? He confesses his love for you and so you marry someone else and ruin your friendship with your best friend. What's up with that? Come to think of it, I don't think we see Krasinski in the movie at all after he mentions his feelings...

Something Borrowed Gets 6 Stars
Because of all of it's shortcomings, Something Borrowed only gets 6 stars. To be honest, it should get less, but Hudson and Goodwin are great actresses (as previously mentioned) and are two of my favorites. If they wouldn't have been in the movie, it probably would have gotten just 4 stars.
