The Zombie Survival Guide

Before I get into this review, yes, I reviewed it on Questing to Read back in the day and this is mainly a rehashing of it. However, this was voted for, and I figured that I should probably put it up here sooner rather than later. A shout out goes to Gorify, as this fits into your area of expertise quite nicely.


This book is an interesting look at what could happen if zombies took over. Mr. Brooks informs the reader of what he/she should do to prepare for a zombie attack. There are lists of effective weapons, the effectiveness of different types of terrain to defend against an attack and the different classes of outbreaks.


Not only does the inside of the book provide good insight, the list on the back cover (Top 10 Lessons For Surviving a Zombie Attack) is almost as effective as the inside for providing you with good information. That list is as follows:

1. Organize before they rise!
2. They feel no fear, why should you?
3. Use your head: cut off theirs.
4. Blades don't need reloading.
5. Ideal protection = tight clothes, short hair.
6. Get up the staircase, then destroy it.
7. Get out of the car, get onto the bike.
8. Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert!
9. No place is safe, only safer.
10. The zombie may be gone, but the threat lives on.

The thing that Max was always pushing was to never put off preparing for an outbreak. If you wait til the last minute, it's already too late. That throws an interesting bit of perspective into things, doesn't it?


To finish off the book, Max lists in chronological order all of the recorded incidents of zombie attacks and what happened during each one. My conclusion? Zombie attacks can happen anywhere in the world and at any time. They are not limited to any one location or time of day. Once the Solanum (the virus that creates the zombies) takes hold, it is really only a matter of time until a large group of zombies crops up.

TZSG gets 9/10 stars

As far as ratings go, TZSG gets 9 stars. The book is simple enough to read and comprehend, but it does drag on at times. That being said, you can't really be too picky when it comes to surviving a zombie attack. One can't rush learning about survival in a life or death (or should it be life or living-dead?) situation.


I highly suggest you all pick this up and read it cover to cover. After all, the more you are informed, the less likely you are to become a zombie when the eventual apocolypse does come.
