The Hunger Games (Movie)

May the Odds be Ever in your Favor

Most of you should know what The Hunger Games are. If not, you really need to get out more. The Hunger Games, in book format, is a New York Times Best Seller, but in its movie form, had one of the biggest opening weekends in history.

This movie follows the first book of the trilogy (for my review on the book, please see here) pretty well in my opinion. That being said, there were a few things and people that were cut out, that might not have needed to be. Regardless, the movie was very good.

The rewatchability value of THG is very high as well. This is mainly due to the excellent acting by the main characters. Jennifer Lawrence fits the role of Katniss perfectly, and I don't think anyone can really argue with that. Another thing that helps with this is all the action.

Granted, not everyone will want to watch the movie. I say that because of some of the things that happen in the movie. (Those of you who have read the books can ignore the spoiler tags.)

There are quite a few shots of kids killing each other for the amusement of the Capitol, as well as some graphic hallucinations. *

Even though this is true, the camera movement is shaky enough during these moments that there isn't enough focus on any one thing for long enough to really show you anything. You get to see just enough to get an idea of what is going on.
8/10 Stars from The Review

The Hunger Games gets 8/10 stars, 1 less than its printed counterpart. Nothing against anyone who worked on the movie, I just feel that the books were slightly better. The only real downside to the film, in my opinion, is that certain people were left out and that it didn't go into the higher levels of detail that the books did. That is why it lost the 2 stars. If you want my opinion (if you didn't, you wouldn't be here), read the books first. That will give you a better understanding as to what is going on. The book translated very well to the big screen overall, however, and I expect the next 2 to do the same.

Look for the DVD and BluRay to drop on August 18th. The link to preorder from Amazon is below.
