Cabin in the Woods

You think you know the story.

I'll admit it right here, the only reason I wanted to see this in the first place is because it was produced by Joss Whedon. Just the fact that he had any hand in the making of it was enough for me. So, without knowing too much about the movie (other than it was a horror-ish movie), I started to watch it.

It started out like any other horror movie, with a group of teenage friends heading to a remote cabin for the weekend. While this seems all well and good, things aren't as they seem (when are they ever?). There are people 'pulling-the-strings,' as it were, and these people may not have the best of intentions.

Note: While this movie has been out since April, I will still put some soft-spoiler tags in here so that those who haven't yet seen the movie can skip the spoilers if they want.

When the friends go down to the cellar, they find some random items. They don't know it at the time, but depending on their actions, that determines how they will die. On top of that, the people who are 'pulling the strings' (they aren't, they mention that the teens must use their free-will a lot) are watching all of this and betting on it. To make things even more interesting, there is even a good reason for the friends getting killed.

But, no matter how good the reason is, that is one spoiler that you will have to find that out on your own, I'm afraid.

And with that, I give you my rating.
7.5/10 stars for TCITW

All in all, the movie was pretty good. It started like any standard horror film, but then it got kinda cheesy in my opinion. It was because of this that the movie only got 7.5 stars. I was just expecting a bit more, considering that Joss Whedon had a hand in making it. All that being said, I still recommend it to anyone and everyone. You can get the DVD through Netflix and from Amazon on BluRay and DVD below.
