"Psychology of Game Immersion"
I decided that since I had already provided you guys with a review of kurtjmac's Kerbal Space Program web series, I would just continue with another of his series. In this one, Kurt plays, you guessed it, DiRT 3. If you have absolutely no idea what DiRT 3 is, it is the latest in Codemasters' main series of rally simulation games.
The series follows Kurt's attempts at running through DiRT 3. He races in Rally races, Land Rush races and the occasional Gymkhana event. I say occasional because he tries to avoid those like the plague.
Much of what I said about Kurt's KSP series applies to this one as well. It is awesome to watch his failures (we really like seeing people fail, don't we?), and trust me, there are a lot of them. And on the flip-side of that coin, it is also great to see him win in epic fashion. Win or lose, Kurt's commentary is hilarious. Unlike the Kerbal Space Program series, episodes are posted throughout the week, as opposed to about once a week.
There are parts of the series, similar to KSP, that are just boring. These are spots where the game is loading, and like KSP, Kurt fills those in with his witty banter. On top of that, the gameplay is a bit repetitive, although that is mainly just because that is how the game really is. If it wasn't for this being one of Kurt's webseries, I probably would not have even taken a look at it because of it being repetitive. The series follows Kurt's attempts at running through DiRT 3. Kurt Plays DiRT 3 gets 9 stars from The Review. The lost star is from the fact that everything is so repetitive. All-in-all though, the series is very well put together. It is one of those series that is good to pass the time if you have nothing better to do. If you would like to watch it, the best place to do so is over at YouTube. Link for it is here.
