The Lucky One

Take a Chance

OK, yes I know this movie is almost a year old already (how did a year go by so darn fast?), but I figured since today was Valentine's Day, this movie would be fitting. And just a forewarning, this review is FILLED with SPOILERS, but since it is a year old almost, that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

The Lucky One is another by that genius of a love story author, Nicholas Sparks. It follows the story of a Marine named Logan (Zac Efron). While in Iraq, Logan sees a picture in some rubble and he goes to pick it up. He notices that it is a picture of a young woman, and on the back, it says "Keep Safe." Logan going to pick it up essentially saves his life, as he is able to avoid mortar fire that kills several in his unit.

He believes that the woman in the picture is his guardian angel, and he keeps the picture close to him at all times. After his 3rd tour of duty, Logan returns home to Colorado. When it becomes apparent to him that adjusting to civilian life will be difficult, he decides to seek out the woman from the picture to thank her for keeping him safe. He is able to find out from a lighthouse in the background of the photo that she is in Louisiana (sounds very CSI, don't it?).

So what does he do? He takes his German Shepherd Zeus and walks to Louisiana. Scenes from Forrest Gump came to mind when I saw that. Regardless, once he makes it to Louisiana, he starts asking around in the town that the lighthouse is in if anyone knows who she is. He finds out that she is Beth Green, owner of Green Kennels. When he goes to the kennel to thank Beth, he just can't find the words. But, he sees they need some help, and he asks if he can have the position.

Beth hires him, but only after her mom (Blythe Danner) tells her to give Logan a chance. The rest of the movie is spent watching Logan get closer with Beth and her son and mother. I know that I have thrown a LOT of spoilers out in this review, but I will leave the ending up to you to find out, because it is really a great story. In fact, it is such a good story, that the only complaint I have is that it is kind of clichéd and sappy. But aren't love stories supposed to be that way?

The Lucky One gets a perfect rating

As such, The Lucky One gets a perfect 10-star rating. I really could not recommend this movie any more. It is a great movie to watch with your significant other, especially today. It isn't available on Netflix streaming, should be available through their DVD service. If you want to just buy it, you can get it on Blu-Ray and DVD from Amazon. Links below.
