Devil's Due

Fear Is Born.

Ok. I normally don't watch that many horror movies. However, my wife's family (and by extension, my wife) does. So, our next movie review is another horror movie by the name of Devil's Due.

As the movie has been out since January, I'm not too concerned with spoilers, but for those who haven't seen it yet, be warned.

The movie starts out with newly weds Sam and Zach as they head to the Dominican Republic for their honeymoon. It is the last day before they head home to Suburbia, USA and they get a cab back to their hotel. Except their cab driver insists on taking them somewhere fun for their honeymoon. I don't know about you, but I would be pretty darn skeptical about this, even in my own country.

Unbeknownst to the couple, they get drugged and a ritual is done on the girl. They wake up the next morning in their hotel with no idea how they even got back (Or into their pajamas. Creepy.). Fast forward a bit. Sam finds out she's pregnant. Zach is happy. All is well in the world. Or is it?

Things start to happen. Paramormal type things. Things that would make anyone question their sanity. It turns out that Sam's baby is a Devil baby (of course, they don't know this). Sound familiar? Well, my friends, that is because there was a movie from the late '80s based on a book called Rosemary's Baby that had a similar plot line. They are also making a miniseries on NBC based on that same book.

So, in my opinion, the plot isn't original at all. The characters, though played by decent actors, are also kinda  dull. Shame too, considering how much potential the film really has. DD has moderate rewatchability, and that is really just for the small details you may have missed on the first run through. But beware, because this is another one of those movies that went the found footage route, just like what seems like every other horror movie anymore.

What Devil's Due does have going for it though is the scare factor. It makes you jump when you aren't expecting it, sometimes even making you cower in fear. Though, like several other newer horror movies, there is a slight tell when something scary is going to happen, so if you have a sharp eye, you will know.

A mediocre 4½ stars for Devil's Due

Overall, the movie was OK. It's definitely not one of those movies that you have to rush out and see right this very instant. In fact, it's probably one that will have to be relegated to a rental movie only. I really don't see much that would push you to buy the movie, unless you just like to collect subpar horror movies, in which case, have at it, my friend.

WARNING: Those who get scared easily may experience nightmares after watching this movie.
