Robocraft

Build. Drive. Fight.

Just recently, I was browsing through the free-to-play section on Steam. I usually only do this when my current game library just isn't cutting it. Well, on this particular day, I came across Robocraft.

Robocraft is an interesting game, to say the least. It's as if Minecraft had a baby with a shooter. You have to build a vehicle capable of  destroying your opponents vehicles and survive their attacks. Also, you need to capture their base before yours is taken. As you progress through battles, you will get points to spend on new types of cubes, weapons and movement modules. This makes for a near infinite number of possibilities on your vehicles.

The game is extremely addicting. I have found myself playing hours on end trying to get just a few more points to unlock that oh-so-crucial next piece. It's a grind, but the mechanics and the building of your next death machine makes it seem like less of a grind and more of a good time.

In the most recent update, you can now purchase prebuilt vehicles that are generally a lot more powerful that anything you would be able to build on your own. The purchase of these (with real-world money) goes towards helping the developer work on the game, because at the end of the day, Robocraft is still an early access game.

As far as the matchmaking goes, I've had no problems whatsoever with getting into a match reliably. That's not to say that I haven't heard my fair share of complaining in the in-game chat about it taking a while to find a match. Since it is early access, I'm chalking this up to pre-release bugs.

For an early access game, Robocraft is hitting the mark

Overall, I really enjoy Robocraft. It's fun, addicting, and replayability is through the roof. I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes out of it in the future.
