Well, it appears that Fox has done it again. X-Men: Days of Future Past is awesome. That's it. Review done. Come visit us again!
OK, that's not really the whole review, but what I said holds true. It's an awesome movie. If you didn't already know, Days of Future Past is a bridge between the original films (Old and Busted) and the new ones (New Hotness) and is based on the comic series by the same name. It also serves as a sort of reset button for the entire series.
To put it simply, the original trilogies team exists in a dystopian future. They send Wolverine (Whoo! Hugh Jackman!) back in time to gather the First Class team to prevent the dystopian future from happening in the first place. Dramatic tension ensues, and mutant powered action scenes occur.
Since it is meant to kinda reset the X-Men movies, it can get away with some things that other movies in a continuity might not. For one, it didn't have to abide by any specific timeline really. Wolverine (and the past X-Men) could take care of what they needed to without worrying too awfully much about the effect they would have on the future. Of course, everything they do will have some effect, but they're wanting to change the future anyway, so it's pretty much a non-issue.
The characters are all really well written, and I love the fact that they brought back some of the original cast for this one. Sirs Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are Magneto and Charles Xavier, but so are Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. Having the four of them all in the same movie is amazing. The addition of X-Men not seen before leaves me excited for the future of the series, but it does have the added side effect of making me read through dozens of wiki pages about the various characters and any others that they may be connected with.
Because it is a movie based around time travel, it does have a high rewatchability value. You could watch this quite a few times and always see something new. I absolutely love that about this movie. And something that adds to this rewatchability is the high attention to detail. Granted, there are a few inaccuracies far as the timeline goes (certain band's albums that shouldn't have come out yet were being listened to for one). But, overall, the detail is pretty good.

DOFP is nearly perfect |
Honestly, there isn't much about this movie that I can truly complain about. It has a ton of action, tons of drama, and it's just a lot of fun. Plus, it allows for a lot more movies to potentially be made in the future, and I won't complain about that. Another added bonus, it wipes out the worst of the X-Men movies (and the horrible Weapon XI version of Deadpool), so I definitely recommend it. Go pick up a copy today!
