Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before --- and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Alright everyone, this was the first vote that we had on the poll. So, I bought it on Saturday and had it finished by last night around 8 o'clock PM. I haven't read through a book that quickly since the first few Harry Potter books, and we all know how good those were, so that's gotta tell you something.
Suzanne Collins is a relatively new player in the book writing world, but she knows exactly what she is doing. From the moment I started reading, I was hooked. I don't know why it took me so long (the first book was published in 2008) to find this lovely series, but I'm glad I did, especially considering there is a movie based on the book coming out in March.
Anyway, HG is set in the future in what is left of North America, in what is known as Panem. Panem consists of the Capitol and 12 Districts (the 13th District was destroyed). Due to a past uprising (the very same that destroyed the 13th District), every year, one boy and one girl between the ages of 13 and 18 is chosen to compete in the Hunger Games. It is mandatory for everyone in Panem to watch.
I don't want to give too much of the story away, so this is where I am going to end this review. If you haven't read it yet, I suggest you do before the movie gets here on the 23rd of March. I know that I for sure will be going to see the movie, and reading the sequels soon after. If you want to buy the books, you can get them from Amazon.
