This book by Eoin Colfer is a good book for practically anyone. It has been described as being "Die Hard with fairies" by some fans. It follows the story of a boy named Artemis Fowl II as he captures an elf and holds her for ransom.

I agree with the Die Hard analogy, although never seeing the movie personally, I know it is action-packed, just like this book. From the moment you pick it up, you won't want to put it down. The fact that it is like a thriller interspersed with fantasy allows it to appeal to a large audience. And it doesn't just have fairies. A centaur and kleptomaniac dwarf (though not your typical Lord of the Rings type dwarf) feature pretty heavily as well.

The one bad thing about this book? It's the first in a series of 8, that's right, EIGHT. After finishing the starter, you will want to continue the story, which isn't always a bad thing.
