War Horse

SEPARATED BY WAR.
TESTED BY BATTLE.
BOUND BY FRIENDSHIP.

I just recently watched War Horse over the weekend, and I was blown away. Not only is it a great story, it's a decently good history lesson as well.

SPOILER ALERT
------------------------------------

War Horse is set right before the beginning of WWI in England. Albert Narracott's father goes to auction to get a plough (plow) horse and comes back with a thoroughbred instead, which angers his mother. She calms down a bit when Albert trains the horse to pull a plow.

But then, the war starts and Albert's father has to sell Joey (the horse) to the army to be used in the cavalry. That's pretty much the last we see of the Narracott's until the end of the movie. Now, we follow Joey on his journey as he changes hands several times due to his owner's keep dying.

Four years later, Joey ends up getting stuck in No Man's Land tangled up in barbed wire. I cried out in pain for him at this point. A British soldier and his German enemy call a temporary cease fire and work together to cut Joey free. He get's taken back to the  British trenches, where we finally see Albert again. Even though he's been temporary blinded, he still recognizes his horse. Cue tearful reunion and happy ending.

END SPOILERS

War Horse gets a near perfect 9/10.

Like I said before, War Horse is a great story. It also is a great history lesson as it shows what kind of treatment animals got during WWI. I strongly reccomend it, however, if you don't like animal violence, you might want to pass.

As always, if you have any suggestions, don't be afraid to leave them in the comments below.
