Badland

It may be called Badland, but it's not bad at all...

Today's review is a covering a game a bit different from most of the ones I have played. Badland, a game from Frogmind, pits you as a strange little creature (not really sure what it is) who must make it through different dangerous areas and to save your clones.

The game in and of itself is simple enough. In fact, the controls are ridiculously simple. All you do to control your creature is hold down on the screen, which makes the little guy fly with what I can only guess are his/her ears.

As you progress through the levels, you will encounter various hazards, including giant saw blades and mines. They must be avoided under most circumstances, although sometimes they are helpful as well. You will also come across various powerups which will allow you to grow/shrink in size, bounce or even stick to objects. In addition, you will collect clones, which in addition to being the point of the game, also helps you to make it through difficult portions of levels.

The art style is very similar to the game Limbo, but instead of being just black over a white background, the background is very colorful. This fits the game quite well in my opinion.

The game is primarily a single player game, however, it does have support for up to 4 person multiplayer. The multiplayer is unlocked by an in-app purchase*, which also eliminates the ads. And they remind you of this frequently throughout the game. The first few levels are ad-free, but after that, you'll get ads every couple levels, as well as an in-game notification that you can either continue playing for free with ads or purchase the full version. This is the one real downside to this game, or any free game for that matter.

Another thing that could be somewhat annoying for some people is the fact that the game can be difficult at times. However, since Badland is a little bit of a puzzle game means it should be somewhat challenging.

7/10 for Frogmind's latest game

All in all, Badland is not bad at all. There are a few spots that are a little rough around the edges, and the constant ads are somewhat annoying, but the game is good. It definitely is a game worth taking a look at, that's for sure. It's a fun casual game to play when you have a few extra minutes. If you would like to check it out for yourself, you can get it on Android, BlackBerry Mobile and iOS by clicking on the links to the left.

*After looking at the game again, the multiplayer is unlocked from the start, the purchase just opens up more levels.
