Skipping Classes. Kicking Asses.
It's not too often that I get the chance to see a movie within a week of opening, and even less often that I review one so soon. Well, that's definitely not the case here. If you have absolutely no idea already, 22 Jump Street is the sequel to the sequel/reboot of the tv show 21 Jump Street. Pretty simple to follow. And this time, you'll be following Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum to college.
First off, let me say that this movie was hilarious. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill really are a great comedic duo. There are so many great quotes that I'd be really hard pressed to find a favorite (though "My name is Jeff" from the trailer is up there.).
The writers really know what they were doing when they created these characters. They mesh well, and have great dynamic tension. It all makes for a film that is straddling the line between believability and farce.
22 cuts back on some of the cheesiness of the first film, which helps to increase the overall maturity of the sequel. Not necessarily a bad thing. However, in lieu of this, the bromance between Tatum and Hill is increased a fair amount. There were several points in the movie where I thought I was watching a rom-com (or should it be a brom-com?) instead of an action-packed crime movie. A little awkward to say the least when you are watching it with your younger brother and his high school friends.
I'd also say there was a fair bit or rewatchability as well. There's not really too many hidden gems in the movie, but it is one of those goofy movies that lends itself well to watching it multiple times. Even if for no other reason than to get a good laugh.

| 8½ Stars out of 10. Not too shabby. |
Overall, the movie gets 8½ stars. What really killed it (for me anyway) was the excessive bromantic elements. I mean, yes, that was kinda a major plot point, but it just seemed a little overdone. Other than that though, the movie was pretty darn good. The action sequences were well put together. The story was well written. And of course, it was freaking hilarious. I recommend you go out and see it while it's still in theaters.
