Furious 7

Vengeance Hits Home.

Furious 7. Where do I begin? Here is a series of movies that get more ridiculous the further into them you go. Furious 7 is no different.

For followers of the series, Furious 7's story follows Dominic Toretto and his family as they come under fire by Deckard Shaw. Shaw is the meaner older brother to Fast 6's (really wish they would just decide on a single naming convention) Owen Shaw, and he wants revenge for his brother.

Now, while the storyline fits along with the rest of the films and their continuity, I feel like they've strayed a bit far from their roots. After all, the first movie was about street racing, and you see how far away from that they have come. Don't get me wrong, I love the movies, but at what point do you stop and say, "Enough is enough?"

As has been the norm for the franchise, the characters are well cast. Granted, most of the main characters have been around since Day 1, but there's no one else I could possibly imagine playing Dom or Brian. And on the subject of Brian O'Conner, you all know of the tragic loss of Paul Walker in 2013. F7 was finished and dedicated to Walker's memory after a significant pause in production. The sendoff they give him and his character at the end of the movie was amazing. In fact, it actually brought tears to my eyes.

Like most summer blockbusters, this is meant to be an action filled fun movie. So, in light of that, some realism is tossed to the side in favor of action and suspense. Like the story lines straying further away from the beginning, so too is the realism the more movies are added. For example (only slight spoilers, as this was in one of the trailers), in one scene, there is a car that is literally jumping from one skyscraper to another, seemingly in perfect control. I mean, come on, how realistic is that? Though, if you are watching movies for their realism, you are watching the wrong one here.

What the film lacks in realism, it more than makes up in fun. It fills the niche that it is meant for very well. It's fun, it's action-packed, it's Fast and Furious to the core, and as long as you don't take it too seriously, you'll enjoy it just fine.

Furious 7 gets a respectable 6½ stars

Overall, the movie was fairly entertaining. As long as you don't look too closely at the glossy paint that coats the franchise, it is quite enjoyable actually. However, at this point, I don't know how much more Dom's family can take, in both the cinematic sense, as well as the practical. As much as I love the series, I have a feeling the story lines may suffer if they continue much further than they already have. That being said, I am hopeful that the next installment can impress. Also, you should watch this movie, especially if you are a fan of the series and/or the late Paul Walker.
