Gotcha Warriors

Smash some zombies and save the world!

Everyone love a good mobile game. Some are better than others. Gotcha Warriors falls into the 'others' column.

Gotcha Warriors is a tower defense type game from Japanese developers (The)One of Them. It tasks you with defeating the evil doctor who has an army of zombies. You take your Gotcha Warriors or GWs and place them on the field to defeat the zombies. As you play, you can enhance or combine your GWs to make them even more powerful.

The concept is sound, and the game is somewhat addicting. This is partly due to the fact that you get increasingly valuable bonuses if you log in multiple days in a row. You can get things like energy, recruiting tickets (to recruit more GWs), gems (come in handy if you need to revive a fallen GW) and even some rare warriors. I know I have been addicted to the game simply so I can level up my warriors as far as possible, but you have to be careful. You need to recruit new warriors to be able to combine them with others, but there is a limit on how many you can have at a single time. This makes it so you have to manage your space effectively.

However, the game does have a few issues that make it not so fun. First and foremost are the loading screens. There are loading screens everywhere. In fact, just to start the game, you go through two of them: one to get to a screen that tells you to Tap to Start, then another to get to the game menu. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they didn't take so long. Each loading screen takes anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute, effectively making this a game that you have to set aside time to play.

The second big issue is the difficulty. The first levels are easy enough, but as you play, they do increase in difficulty. This isn't an issue to start with, as your GWs are getting stronger as well. But there is a disconnect somewhere and the enemy gets stronger a lot quicker than your warriors can, unless you want to spend actual money to get them leveled up quicker, which is something I refuse to do. I have literally spent the past week grinding lower levels to get energy to increase the power of my warriors and I am still stuck on my current level. Now, I could just not be using the correct heroes (you can only use 5 different GWs with a maximum of 3 each at a time), but I don't want to sit and compare stats on 50 different warriors just to find a good combination. I want to destroy zombies already!

At least the game play (once you can actually get to it) is decent.

5½ stars seems appropriate

Overall, the game is alright. If you can get around the long loading screens, there is a good few hours of game play to be had. At least until you continually get your face bashed into the ground by a super sized mutant doctor multiple times. Then it's no fun. This app is available for both Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. If you want to play a game and destroy zombies with samurai and soldiers, take a look. Links for both versions are below.
