Malice

Some family secrets just won't stay buried.

Today's web series review is about an up and coming show called Malice. Malice (or MⒶLICE if you like) follows the Turner family and the supernatural occurrences that stem from their past. Think of it as scifi-horror. Donnie Darko meets Paranormal Activity that is inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Although the creator says it's Juno meets The Shining.

Have I piqued your interest?

I was approached back in February by Creator/Director +Philip Cook (at least I think it was him, it was the series' page anyway) on Facebook regarding the series. He said that they had just finished the series and were posting episodes on YouTube. So, I said I'd take a look. Well, one review led to another, and eventually, the series was relegated to an afterthought. I just watched the first two seasons (6 episodes a piece) and man, I'm wishing I never waited so long, because this show is amazing.

It is centered around teenager Alice (+Brittany Martz), who has an active imagination, as she deals with the stresses of a new school, and the odd supernatural occurrences. People start disappearing, and she must go 'down the rabbit hole' so to speak to save them. The story is completely original, and although it starts out a little slow, it quickly pulls you in an makes you want to watch more. The short episode length makes that very easy, as they average out at around 5 minutes a piece, essentially making the first two seasons an hour long movie.

The short episode length left me wanting more, and as luck would have it, the team just completed their Kickstarter campaign to get Season Three put together. This also allows for rewatchability too, as the episodes are short and to the point.

A Perfect 10
In fact, I really don't have anything negative to say about the series. It is engaging, interesting, and I could see this going on for a good while. And who knows, maybe some of the actors will hit it big because of their work in Malice. After considering everything, Malice receives the coveted 10 star rating. Not too many things can blow me away enough to deserve that kind of rating. If you would like to check out Malice yourself (and I highly suggest you do), head on over to YouTube and prepare to be amazed.
